The 2006 L'Anse Grise Children's Mardi Gras Run

Our 2006 Children's Mardi Gras Run, held on Sunday, 26 February, was even better than expected. Better pictures have been add to the poor pictures that I took, courtesy of Cindy Fontenot and Bryan Lafleur. I'm still expecting more later and I'll post them as soon as I get them.

The chicken chase was changed from being at Mr. & Mrs. Carl Vidrine's home after the run, to bringing chickens on the run for chasing, which was a very nice touch. The run started with a visit to Mr. & Mrs. Elbay Fontenot's home on Darrel Road, and a chicken chase was staged there. We then moved next door to Mr. & Mrs. Darrel Guillory's home where the children did some dancing and entertaining. From there we went to the home of Mr. & Mrs. Leroy Fontenot and conducted a chicken run and some dancing. Then on to Reddell and conducted a parade type procession through the community. On the way back from Reddell we stopped at Danny's Quick Stop for another chicken chase, with some dancing and monkeying around. The next stop was at Mrs. Calvin (Skeet) Bogard's home for more chasing and dancing. From Mrs. Skeet's home, we went back to the home of Mr. & Mrs. Dowell Lafleur to prepare a chicken and sausage gumbo for all the runners and guests. Many thanks to Mr. Harrison Fontenot, Mr. Roland Guillory and Mr. John Deshotels for providing live music after the run.

We would like to thank all who donated assorted food items, which included sausage for the gumbo, cooked rice, potato salad, gumbo bowls and spoons, plus uncooked rice, cokes and boudin for the runners. I won't attempt to name the providers of these items because I wouldn't be able to name them all, and that would be an injustice. Hopefully next year we'll be able to keep track of all donations for listing on the website.

We have already started planning for a better, more organized, run next year. Use the link below to view the 2006 Mardi Gras Pictures.
